What We Collect

You can read everything on this site without telling us who you are. We do not ask you to open an account, and there is nothing here to sign up for. If you only browse the pages, the information we hold about you is limited to the technical records described below, which are generated automatically when any website is loaded.

If you choose to write to us through the contact form on this site, we receive what you put into the form, which normally means your name, your e-mail address and the content of your message. You decide what to include. Please do not send us identity documents, bank statements, account numbers or anything else sensitive, because we have no need for it and cannot protect it the way a financial institution would.

We do not collect payment details, because nothing on this site is sold. We do not collect trading account information, because we do not operate accounts and are not connected to any broker's systems. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and the site is not directed at them.

Your Rights

You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to ask for a copy of it, to have mistakes corrected, and to ask us to delete it. You can also object to a particular use, or ask us to restrict it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time; this does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.

To exercise any of these rights, use the contact form on this site and say clearly what you want. We may need to confirm that the request comes from you, which usually means replying from the same e-mail address you used before. We answer within the period the applicable data protection law allows, and we will tell you if we need more time and why.

If you believe we have handled your information badly, please tell us first so that we can look into it. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country. We keep requests and our replies on file so that we can show we dealt with them properly.

Retention Periods

We keep correspondence sent through the contact form for as long as it is useful for answering readers and for showing, if asked, how we handled a request. In practice this means we review such messages periodically and delete those that no longer serve a purpose, and in any event we do not keep them for more than a few years.

Technical logs, such as the record of a page being requested, are kept for a short period and then discarded or reduced to anonymous statistics. We do not build long histories of individual readers. Where a record is needed only to resolve a fault or a dispute, we keep it until that matter is closed and then remove it.

When we delete information, it is removed from our active records. Residual copies may remain for a short time in backups before those backups are themselves overwritten in the ordinary course.

Sharing and Analytics

We do not sell personal information, and we do not rent it, trade it or hand it to brokers or marketers so that they can contact you. We do not share it for anyone else's advertising. This is a firm rule, not a preference.

We do share limited information with the service providers that keep the site running, such as the company that hosts the pages and the provider of the contact form. They act on our instructions and may use the information only to provide that service to us. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.

We measure how the site is used in aggregate: which pages are read, how often, and roughly from which region, so that we can decide what to improve. These figures are statistical and are not used to single you out or to build a profile of you for advertising. We do not run behavioural advertising on this site.

Location of Processing

The servers that host this site and the service providers we use may be located outside Kenya, including in other countries where privacy rules differ from those you are used to. Where information is transferred abroad, we take the steps the applicable law requires to keep it protected.

Because this is a small editorial site with no affiliated financial business, the range of recipients is narrow: our hosting provider, our contact-form provider, and anyone we are legally obliged to answer. We do not maintain a database of readers, and we do not maintain a mailing list.

This policy describes current practice and may be updated as the site or its suppliers change. The version published on this page is the one that applies.
