Alpari App for PC: Full Breakdown of Desktop Trading

The core of the desktop experience is MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5. Both are native Windows applications, not browser wrappers. For Kenya users considering Alpari for PC, the platforms deliver the full power of these industry-standard terminals, but local specifics affect how you fund the account and what to expect from execution.

The Core Desktop Build

The PC client installs quickly, and memory usage stays reasonable even with 10-15 charts open and an Expert Advisor running.

The execution model depends on the account type. Some account types use a dealing desk model, which means requotes can happen during high-impact news. On the ECN and Pro ECN accounts, the model shifts to a direct market access setup where you see raw spreads and pay a commission per lot.

On a standard fiber connection, the order ticket fills in under a second. There is no visible slippage on limit orders during normal liquidity hours, which covers the London-New York overlap starting around 16:00 EAT. That window is when the majors are most liquid.

Account Options and What They Cost

The desktop platform gives you all four account tiers:

AccountMin DepositSpread BaselineStructure
MicroUSD 30from 1.5 pipsMT4 only, ideal for testing
StandardUSD 100from 0.3 pipsFixed-ish, no commission
ECNUSD 300from 0.1 pipsVariable + commission
Pro ECNUSD 500from 0.0 pipsRaw spread + ~USD 2.50/lot
The Micro account is strictly MetaTrader 4. You do not get MT5 on it, so if you prefer the newer terminal, you need to start with the Standard account or higher.

Platform Features That Matter

You can run both MT4 and MT5 side by side. For algorithmic traders, MT4 is still the standard for Expert Advisors. The community library is massive, and you can plug in any signal provider or script without compatibility headaches.

MT5 is the better charting engine. The depth of market tool is usable, and the built-in economic calendar saves you from tabbing out to check news. For a PC-first user, the multi-monitor support is worth noting: you can drag each chart to its own screen, and the settings persist after a restart.

The Alpari mobile app complements the desktop client for managing positions, but the heavy lifting happens on the PC version.

Costs and Execution in Practice

Spreads on the ECN account are tight during peak hours. On USD/CHF, around 0.1 pips most afternoons, with the commission layer on top. The ~USD 2.50 per lot per side on Pro ECN is a hard cost, not a markup.

Cost TypeStandardECNPro ECN
USD/CHF spreadfrom 0.3 pipsfrom 0.1 pipsfrom 0.0 pips
Commission per lotNoneYes~USD 2.50/side
Best forSwing tradingScalpingHigh-frequency / EAs

On the Standard account, you are paying the spread only. If you hold trades for hours rather than minutes, that often nets out cheaper than the ECN commission. If you are heavy into scalping, the raw spread plus commission on Pro ECN usually wins because the spread compression offsets the fee.

Where It Falls Short

Kenyan residents are onboarded under the offshore operator, Parlance Trading Ltd, with a Comoros MISA licence (T2023236). There is no verified CMA Kenya authorisation for the current Alpari brand. You have less local recourse if a dispute comes up, and you should weigh that against the leverage offered.

The leverage of up to 1:3000 on forex and metals is risky if you are not experienced. With that much leverage, a move of less than 0.04% can wipe out your margin on a standard position. A CMA-licensed broker would cap you near 1:400, so the entity on your onboarding documents matters a lot.

WARNING
The current Alpari Kenya entity is offshore under Comoros MISA. The older CMA Kenya licence belonged to a different operator (Exinity) and is not valid for today's Alpari brand. Verify the onboarding entity before depositing.

There is no verified local M-Pesa rail for deposits or withdrawals. That is significant because M-Pesa is the default for most Kenyan traders. You are looking at cards, wire transfer, FasaPay, Volet, or crypto (BTC/ETH) instead, and base currency is USD, EUR, GBP, or CZK, not KES.

The gap is not about platform quality, because MT4 and MT5 are identical everywhere. It is about what happens around the trade: how you get money in, whether you have local protection, and how leverage is managed.

Tax and Deposit Reality for Kenyans

Trading profit is taxed as ordinary income by the Kenya Revenue Authority. It is added to your taxable income and taxed on graduated bands up to 35%. If you trade through a company, the corporate rate is 30%. Tax residents file an annual return declaring worldwide income between January and June.

On the deposit side, no KES base currency is verified for Alpari's current operator. That creates a conversion cost every time you fund a USD-denominated account. Many Kenya-friendly brokers now let you deposit in KES directly and even accept M-Pesa, which avoids that double conversion. Alpari does not offer that convenience at the moment.

Where this leaves you

Alpari on PC is a capable terminal, and the 1998-founded brand has depth in its history and over a million claimed clients. If you are an experienced trader who wants high leverage, tight spreads, and full EA compatibility, the desktop client delivers.

Meant for

Experienced traders who know exactly what leverage they are using, who can handle USD-denominated accounts, and who want MT4's EA library or MT5's advanced charting. If you understand offshore regulation and accept it, the platform itself is not the weak link.

Not meant for

Traders looking for local oversight, M-Pesa deposits, or KES-denominated accounts. If you want a clear local complaint route and the safety of CMA audits, look for a broker on the CMA register instead. A stronger regulatory framework is worth the trade-off in features.

FYI
Retail forex is legal in Kenya. The choice here is not about legality; it is about which regulatory layer you want between your funds and the broker.

Questions

Are deposits from Kenya processed via M-Pesa?

No local KES M-Pesa or mobile-money rail is verified for the current operator. Funding works through cards, wire transfer, FasaPay, Volet, or crypto (BTC/ETH). The minimum deposit is USD 30 on the Micro account.

Can I use Alpari MT4 and MT5 on a PC from Kenya?

Yes, both MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 run as native Windows desktop apps. The Micro account is limited to MT4 only, while Standard, ECN, and Pro ECN accounts work on either terminal.

What leverage does Alpari offer on the desktop platform?

Kenyan clients onboarded under the offshore operator can get up to 1:3000 on forex and metals. That is far higher than the ~1:400 cap for CMA-licensed brokers, so the leverage you actually get depends on which legal entity onboards you.
